Tainted junior engineer (JE) Purna Chandra Choudhry was arrested once again on Tuesday after he was found accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Choudhry was working as JE (now under suspension) in Kashipur block of Odisha’s Rayagada district.
According to official sources, one more case was instituted against the junior engineer for possessing disproportionate assets (DA) worth around Rs.1,73,48,417 following his trap on August 31, 2024 and during simultaneous searches by separate teams of Odisha Vigilance sleuths on properties linked to him.

In this connection, Koraput Vigilance PS case [No-22, dated 11.11.2024 against the engineer and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 of the PC Act, as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018] has been registered.
The JE Choudhry was arrested and forwarded to Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Vigilance, Jeypore, an official communique issued in this regard mentioned.
A detailed probe into the DA case is underway, the Vigilance press release added.
Worth mentioning that the JE was previously arrested and forwarded to court after being caught red-handed by Vigilance while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.
The JE had accepted the bribe from a ‘Gaon Saathi’ to take measurements of work executed by the complainant and to facilitate the release of payment under MGNREGS.
Choudhry was then arrested in connection with Koraput Vigilance PS case [No-16, dated 30.08.2024 U/s 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018].
