I am writing to express my concern regarding the significant delays in processing maintenance payments at the Family Court.
Currently, there is an unacceptable six-to-eight-week waiting period for payments made via WiPay.
This prolonged delay stands in stark contrast to the efficient processing times observed during the Covid period, where payments were promptly handled within days.
What strikes me as paradoxical is the fact that a maintenance payor can face a warrant if overdue by more than four weeks, while the court itself extends this delay to twice that duration. This inconsistency is glaring and raises questions about the fairness of the system.
The indifferent communication surrounding this two-month delay only exacerbates the issue, fostering a belief that no urgency exists to address this matter.
This lack of concern sends a message that change will only be initiated when recipients endure an egregious six-month wait or resort to public embarrassment.
Such an approach is not only unjust but also undermines the integrity of the court system.
I urge you to shed light on this matter and call for urgent action to rectify these delays.
Timely maintenance payments are crucial for the well-being of recipients, and the current situation is an injustice that cannot be overlooked.
It is my hope that through your platform, we can bring attention to this issue and prompt the necessary changes for a more equitable and efficient system.
