Tshwane forced to temporarily suspend bus services

PRETORIA – Tshwane commuters were promised that buses would return to service in the city this week but they’ll have to make do with alternative transport in the meantime.

The City has been forced to temporarily suspend its bus services, following the torching of several municipal vehicles on Wednesday.

This as South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) affiliated members continue their six-week long wage strike in the capital.

The city has described this as organised, coordinated attacks on infrastructure aimed at destabilising the metro.

The union, however, accuses the Tshwane council of reneging on the agreed wage hike.

Officials say operations will resume as soon as its safe, to get the buses back on the road.

On Monday, the bargaining council dismissed the city’s bid to not increase worker salaries this year.

The City said it would take the decision on review.
