Real Madrid defender Eder Militao has returned to the club’s training base following a thigh injury. The centre-back, who had been selected for Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay, was forced to withdraw after medical assessments revealed a muscle strain in his right thigh.
Injury details and medical update
Militao experienced pain in his right thigh after a training session at the Atletico Paranaense Training Center on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Brazilian FA’s medical team conducted a clinical examination and an MRI, which confirmed a minor muscle injury. As a result, Militao will not participate in the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches. The Brazilian FA has expressed support for the player and wishes him a swift recovery.
Impact on Real Madrid and upcoming fixtures
Militao’s injury could sideline him for a few weeks. Real Madrid will resume their La Liga campaign on September 14, facing Real Sociedad in San Sebastian. They will also begin their UEFA Champions League title defense three days later, hosting Stuttgart. If Militao’s recovery extends beyond the expected timeline, he might miss the derby against Atletico Madrid on September 29.
Real Madrid is already dealing with injury issues, as centre-back David Alaba is currently sidelined. Additionally, Ferland Mendy, Aurelien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham, and Dani Ceballos have all been affected by injuries this season. The team’s depth in central defense is further compromised by the departure of former club captain Nacho Fernandez and the recent transfer of key target Leny Yoro to Manchester United.
