BREAKING: Popular Islamic Singer, Rukayat Gawat Is Dead

Renowned Nigerian Islamic singer, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, has reportedly died.

She was famous for her enchanting voice and spiritual songs that touched the hearts of many in the Muslim community.

Naija News reports that the announcement of her passing was posted by well-known Ilorin-based religious leader Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah on his official Facebook page early Tuesday morning.

“Our Sympathy goes to the family of Ruqayat Gawat for this great lost! May Allah forgive her shortcomings! RUQAYAT GAWAT IS GONE!,” he posted on his official Facebook page on Tuesday morning.

More information about the cause of her death has not been fully revealed at the time of filing this report.

Her passing has been deeply mourned by her followers and the wider Muslim music community – with her death being widely reported.

Reacting, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Jubril Gawat, mourned the deceased in a cryptic post via X.

“Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return,” Gawat, who is a relative to the singer, wrote.

Naija News understands that the late Islamic singer was married to Insurance guru, Alhaji Shakiri Oyefeso.

She was regarded as one of the leading Islamic musicians in Nigeria.

She was said to be a woman of substance who is passionate about women’s responsibilities in a home which she often reflected in her songs.

Her remains will be interred later today according to Islamic tenets and rites.

Naija News reports that Gawat’s passing comes two weeks after the death of popular Nigerian gospel singer, Dele Agbeyo, better known by his stage name, Dele Gold, was announced.

The singer reportedly died on Wednesday after a brief illness.

Dele Gold, who is also known as The Miliki Gospel King, was a native of Usi, Ekiti State, but grew up in Faforiji, in Osun State.

Confirming Dele Gold’s death, his colleague Alayo Melody wrote in a post on his social media page, “Dele Gold died kee? Ahhh This is getting too much!!!! May God help us stop this untimely death. Dele Agbeyo May your soul rest well.”

His colleagues have continued to pay tribute to him via their various social media accounts.
