A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a 20-year-old man, Garzali Murtala, standing trial over an alleged attempt to rape a 13-year-old girl.
Magistrate Farouk Ibrahim-Umar, who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered the police to return the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
Mr Ibrahim-Umar adjourned the matter until 20 November for further mention.
The defendant, who resides in Galadimawa Village, Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State, was charged with attempted rape.
The prosecutor, Ibrahim Arif-Garba, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on 21 September at about 9 a.m. at a bush along Sulbawa village in Rimingado Local Government Area of the state.
He told the court that the defendant blocked the 13-year-old girl and forcefully attempted to rape her in a bush.
Mr Arif-Garba said that the offence contravened the provisions of section 95 of the Penal Code.
