We’re Integrating Women in Communal Peace Building for National Security – Ribadu
The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has said the Federal Government is implementing concrete measures to integrate women into peace-building activities so as to achieve necessary reforms and alleviate poverty in Nigeria.
Ribadu spoke at a three-day workshop on the strategic roles for women in climate-focused peacemaking in Nigeria organised by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) in partnership with the Government of Canada.
Represented by the Head of Strategic Communication in the NSA office, Zakari Mijinyawa, Ribadu said ensuring women’s involvement in activities at the community level is critical to strengthening national security.
He added that government, both at the state and national levels, has always provided support in terms of rehabilitation and reintegration of persons affected by violent extremism and terrorism.
Speaking at the event, the Senior National Adviser, HD, Mrs Gloria Thomas, explained that the event which is the second edition was organised in a bid to boost the engagement of women in peacemaking.
She further stressed that women and youths are often the most vulnerable groups faced with conflicts and security challenges some of which are worsened by climate change.
PRNigeria reports that the ongoing workshop will come to an end on Thursday with over 50 delegates from across the country in attendance.
The workshop is themed: “Strengthening Women’s Strategic Engagement in Climate-Focused Peace Making in Nigeria.”
