Well, folks, the Bedlam series is almost over.
Oklahoma travels to Oklahoma State for one of the best rivalry games in the country. It’ll be the last, though, with the Sooners’ move to the SEC next year. But you know what they say: Save the best for last.
The Sooners were nearly perfect on the season until last week’s loss to Kansas. While they still need to battle for a conference title, the adversity could be a good thing. The Cowboys had a rough start to the season, losing to South Alabama and Iowa State, but have since stormed to a four-game win streak. They’ve been tough to stop with Ollie Gordon leading the way. The running back is the best in the nation, leading in yards per game with 135.9.
On the other side, Dillon Gabriel has been a standout QB for Oklahoma. He leads the conference in passing yards per game with 287.8 and helped seal the deal against Texas with a touchdown with 15 seconds on the clock. He knows how to beat the Cowboys, helping Oklahoma to a 28-13 victory last year.
Oklahoma has a huge upper hand in the Bedlam rivalry. It’s won seven of the last eight matchups, outscoring Oklahoma State by an average of 13 points per game during that time. But anything can happen in Stillwater. Should the Cowboys upset the Sooners, Mike Gundy will finish the series with his fourth win over the rivals.
As it stands, both teams are 4-1 in the Big 12, standing in first alongside three other programs. The Bedlam series victor could essentially knock its rival out of contention for the conference title game.
