Hyderabad/Bengaluru death-thrash metal band Godless are parting ways with vocalist Kaushal L.S. this month. The announcement came as Godless heads out on a five-city run of shows across India and Nepal starting Jul. 12 and concluding on Jul. 18.

Kaushal had joined Godless in 2015 shortly after it was founded by bassist-composer Abbas Razvi and lent his incisive vocal style to the band’s debut EP Centuries of Decadence (2016), the follow-up EP Swarm (2018) and their debut album States of Chaos (2021). Most recently, his final contribution with a Godless song is “Amorphous Mass,” which released in May.

In a statement released through the band, Kaushal said, “After nearly a decade of creating music together, it is with a heavy heart that I announce my departure from Godless. Since joining the band in 2015, we’ve had an epic journey—from releasing two EPs, a full-length album, and a single, to playing big stages like Wacken Open Air and touring extensively across Europe and the subcontinent. We’ve crossed thousands of kilometres by air and road and shared countless unforgettable experiences.”

The vocalist – a co-founder of metallers Maneating Orchid and previously part of metal bands like Eccentric Pendulum and Gutslit – said it took “much introspection” before taking the call to part with Godless. Kaushal adds, “It came from a place of wanting to explore new personal and artistic horizons. I’m profoundly thankful to my bandmates in Godless for the time we’ve shared and the memories we’ve made […] I want to thank all of you who stood with us and the support you’ve given us over the years. It’s been a monumental journey that I will always cherish.”

Godless, for their part, added in their statement, “We thank Kaushal for his incredible contributions and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.” After the final run of shows this month with him, Godless will turn their focus on their next record, which will feature a new vocalist. “We’ll be launching the search for a new frontman right after the tour,” the band’s statement adds.

The band performs in New Delhi on Jul. 12, followed by a couple of shows in Nepal, in Kathmandu on Jul. 13 and Pokhara Jul. 14. Their final shows with the current lineup come on Jul. 17 in Shillong and Jul. 18 in Bengaluru, where they are supporting German tech-death metal band Defeated Sanity’s India debut.

The band statement adds, “Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to announce our return to Europe in April-May 2025, where we’ll explore new territories, new audiences with new music.”
