  • Pauline PK gave everything she had towards a house she and her then-husband were building, unaware she would regret the decision
  • When the man returned to Kenya from Somalia, where he had been working, he showed no appreciation for her efforts
  • The couple parted ways, after which the ex demanded the house and told authorities that Pauline contributed nothing

Pauline PK did what every loving wife does: take charge of the family’s projects.

In this case, the project was the family house, as the doting mother set her eyes on offering her child a dream home.

Both contributed financially towards the project and although Pauline admits he contributed more, she spent hours of valuable time at the site.

Since her husband was based in Somalia, he left behind a blank field and returned to a complete house.

How was the construction process?

During this time, she and her three-year-old son survived like paupers as they spent every penny on the house.

“We moved in before the house was complete and slept on the floor. The house was freezing because the walls were still wet,” she recalled.

To reduce her expenses, she planted vegetables and would fetch water from the well to water them every evening without fail because they depended on them.

The unfinished house had no power, so her phone was mostly offline, and sometimes, she used a small solar battery to charge it.

Lover’s response to the house upon return

She was often forced to take her son to her hustles or leave him with neighbours to earn more money.

“I would have to run through maize plantations and bend through barbed wire fences to pick him up in the dark whenever I was late,” she continued.

Despite her struggles, her lover returned home and showed no appreciation or excitement about the project.

Pauline says she expected him to go around the house with slasher and chase wild insects or possible snakes, but he did not bother.

“He didn’t even want to supervise the fundis who were fixing some things while I went out hustling,” she lamented.

What led the marriage to collapse?

Pauline disclosed that the man’s indifference to the project made her realize she was putting too much effort into a useless marriage.

She started her exit plan, which she says was peaceful until they reached the point of selling the house.

“My ex wanted everything to himself. At a chief, where I went to report, he said all was his property, and nothing belonged to me,” she added.

According to the man, Pauline was just his unemployed girlfriend who could not contribute financially to anything.

What lessons did she pick?

The back-and-forth between her, the authorities, and her ex was heartbreaking, but she finally received her due.

Pauline advises women to have their wealth conspicuous. Otherwise, their financial contributions risk being dismissed.

She also prevailed upon men to appreciate their women’s role and effort in family projects.

Husband’s weird request from wife

Elsewhere, a woman opened up about an awkward moment with her husband after he made a humble request.

The woman disclosed her husband asked her to foot house expenses so that he could cater for his projects.

She declined the request, saying her man was still legally married to his first wife and had struggled to divorce her.
